New BlackBerry case.

I almost forgot to post a picture of my new BlackBerry case from Fishing Forward on www.zazzle.com

My BlackBerry Curve is now disguised as a largemouth bass.

Winter is long here, hope I don't get cabin fever and start flippin' a Strike King Rodent at it mid winter!....HA!
I waited and waited until the black Friday sale and got it at 50% off and $4.00 flat rate shipping.
Ordered a few in for iPhones and Blackberry's for some friends.

They have almost every fresh water sport fish in north America for iPhone, BlackBerry and now Android phones.

Just another reason I've been diagnosed with "Fishin' Fever".

2nd Generation Spectra Baits from Northern Lights Lures.

Talking with Dan Nossey my long time friend and senior partner at Chromadic Creations, the parent company of Northern Lights Lures and their Spectra Bait brand of colour changing lures about the 2nd generation of their revolutionary baits.
The new baits not only change colour when retrieved through the different thermal zones of the water column but also react to UV light.
I hope to get my hands on some soon. The first generation baits (both hard and soft) worked well and served as an excellent test bed for this 2nd generation.
Orders have started to ship world wide through distributors established at iCast 2011.

Here's a peak at one of the baits I'm excited to fish in 2012.

With the belly activating from yellow to blood red when retrieved thru a colder thermal layer, this bait is going to provoke strikes!

2012 is going to be awesome!

Cheers,
ScottyB

What a deal!

Just grabbed 2 Ardent F500 Fishouflage flip'n pitch reels at $69.00 usd each right from Ardents website.
Looks like they're clearing shelf space for 2012 models maybe.

It's going to be an even longer winter waiting to use these new reels!
Why do I do this to myself?

Cheers,
ScottyB

Thursday 8 December 2011

last day of open water fishing, packing it in.

Went out today and froze my tail off.
Trying to find some big Pike roaming around in the Harbour with no luck.

Time to pack it in for another season. Ice over won't be too far off anyway.

Going to pull all my reels off rods, loosen off all the drags and clean and service.

Ordered a big spray jug of Ardent Reel Clean today, will use it to hose off all of the crud and grime build up before oiling and greasing everything up before they're put to bed for the winter.

Time to bring everything back down to the man cave area and sort thru my 15 or so tackle trays to see what needs replacing, sharpening and repair.

It's going to be a long winter.

I may take another crack at ice fishing but it isn't even close to the same and open water casting plus you freeze you A$$ off.

Cheers

Last day bass season fishing.

Well, managed 2 hours out yesterday to try and land one more bass before the season closed for this year.

Let's just say the weather was "fresh". NW winds and wet snow made for a cold morning.

First cast snagged my new-out-of the-package SKL Series 3 Sexy Shad crankbait in the rocks..gone.

Retied a series 5 and on the second cast hooked in to a 30" (guesstimated size) Northern Pike. It put up a good fight and when I got it close to shore I noticed a big chomp mark on it's back from either a Muskie or a bigger Pike. It looked like a fresh wound too. This fish was angry and no matter how I tried to grab it and flipped out so I took a quick pic in the water and with a quick twist of my pliers it was off to be caught another day.

I am seriously thinking of going back saturday a-m with my muskie set up and chuck big baits to see if the pikes attacker is still roaming the area.

After that fish I managed to loose another SKL crankbait and one Rapala and with the winds picking up, the snow coming down sideways and frozen fingers I decided to bail.

At least I got out and didn't get skunked but it would have been nice to land one last bass; the last saturday in June 2012 is a long way off.

Christmas shopping for myself. Ebay scores.

3 new ebay scores.
Ardent C400 reel  @$60.00 cdn,
2x SKL Baby Burner spinnerbaits @ $6.00 cdn,
a lot of 15 Rapalas for @$51.00 cdn.

Grabbed the reel to add to a St.Croix Bass Mojo top water rod for a dedicated top water set up.
It definetly helps having a US ship to address, shipping is so cheap when you keep it within the US border and bring back 1 piece at a time to keep in in/around my daily exeption limit.

I see the snow is flying, time to head down to the harbour all bundled up for at least an hour of fishing to close out the bass season.

Cheers,
ScottyB

Tuesday 29 November 2011

Sad time of year, bass season ends tomorrow.

This past weekends fishing outings stunk so bad I will not subject you to the details.

Anyway, bass season is about to close in most areas close to me in Ontario tomorrow...boo!

I will suit up in my warm gear and rain suit over top and at least attempt to make a few casts to mark the dark day we fisherman dread as soon as the season opens on that glorious last Saturday in June.

With rain, wind and even wet snow a possibility it may be useless but I at least have to try.

It'll be time to remove all my reels from their rods, clean and service them and put them away for a long winters nap.
I'll have plenty on cold winter nights and weekends to sort thru my tackle and make a list of items to start procuring for next season.
At least we have shows like Extreme Angler TV, Facts of Fishing, The Next Bite, Getting School'd etc to watch and learn from throughout the winter to "easy the pain" until next spring.

Let's see if there is at least one more Bass hungry tomorrow to finish the season off.

Not the way we planned it.

Well Friday fishing didn't go as we planned is a mild understatement.

Wind played havoc in any type of boat control, spent more time trying to stay on spots than fishing it seemed.
We hit several spots and tossed every type of bait imaginable at them with no success....not even a sniff.

Marked a number of fish both suspending and on the bottom with the Lowrance Mark 5x-DSI.

After getting blow in to the rocks a few times and whacking the prop of the MinnKota hard we made the call to head back to the launch and trailer the boat before we did real damage.

Looks like the last time out for the boat this season, weather forecast looks like it's going to drop off next week with 5'c temps during the day and minuses at night with snow.

Going to try some night shore fishing at Port Maitland tonight, talked with  a couple of other fisherman at Fishing World and Canadian Tire both claiming the night bite is on.

It can't be any worse than yesterday can it?

Cheers,
ScottyB

Last chance this weekend.

Hoping the weather forecast is right, looks decent for Friday and Saturday for a last crack at the Harbour before winter and bass season closes for 2011.

Reloaded on a few Strike King XD Sexy Shads and Live Target Golden Shiners.

I am hoping the next few days as it warms up and the sun beats on the shore line rocks it will have the bass sitting on the edge of the 2 spots that have produced last week.

If not I'll hit a few spots I've found on my GPS chart and try for some smallmouth dropshoting Xzone Slammers.

It will be the last time out for my boat before it gets winterized and put to sleep for winter.

Hoping to follow this post up with some pictures and a story of success Friday and Saturday.

Sunday 20 November 2011

tough outing on Saturday.

Hit the local harbour here in Hamilton yesterday.
It has been producing some respectable bass over the last two weeks.
Super windy, very hard to control where I was casting and it cost me 2 SKL sexy shad deep divers and 1 LiveTarget deep diving perch bait....expensive outing.
Tried several spots but chalked up a skunk on the board.
Looks like some decent weather later in the week, hope to get the boat out one last time and another crack at the big largemouth and smallmouth I know are in the harbour before the season closes on Nov 30th.

Just a quick report, off to get the house ready for my son Brodie's 13th birthday party today.

Cheers

Thursday 17 November 2011

Hello.

First time throwing down any form of blog, bare with me!

I'm a 40 year old guy from Hamilton, Ontario.
I was born here, my kids (2) were born here and in the same hospital as me.
I was always an avid fisherman right up until my Dad passed in '88 when I was 17 and it lost it's shine since my fishing partner who taught me everything was gone.
Picked up a rod once or twice a year over the next 15 years but nothing serious.
Then a few years back I ran in to an old high school buddy who fished regularly and went out with him in his beat up old aluminium boat, had some success, caught the fishing bug all over again.

Now I have accumulated a pile of tackle, several rod and reel combos and even bought that beat up old boat off of him for my self.
I watch Extreme Angler TV, The Facts of Fishing, Lunkerville, Lindners Angling Edge, Getting School'd with JP DeRose and The Next Bite on the WFN Network. All of these shows teach you what to use, how to use it and where to fish it. Unlike the old shows that pulled one huge fish out of the water after the other but never explained HOW or on WHAT they actually used to do it.

I guess a combination of meeting up with my old buddy Quinten and getting hooked (bad pun) on these shows has brought me back to fishing, getting out side and learning.....I really missed it and still miss my old fishing partner, my Dad.
